Please see my other Derby lots currently up for auction. I will try to describe the condition of each ticket as best as I can, but use the images to make your own judgement.   1946 Winner: Assault - TRIPLE CROWN WINNERNM-MINT Condition - No creases/folds. No stains. Sharp edges.   1947 Winner: Jet Pilot EX Condition - No crases/folds. Minor paper loss on back of top right corner (see pix). No stains.   1948 Winner: Citation - TRIPLE CROWN WINNER NM Condition - Two MINOR folds/bends on back of ticket (surface only... does not go through full thickness of ticket). Sharp edges & corners.   1949 Winner: Ponder NM-MT Condition - No creases/folds. No stains. Sharp edges..   HIGHLIGHTS & TIDBITS OF THE LATE '40s The Derby almost lost its streak of consecutive years in 1945 due to US government orders banning horse racing, but V-E Day brought an end to the ban, and the race was run on June 9th (Date had to be stamped on ticket). 1946 and 1948 saw Assault and Citation, respectively, win the Derbys before going on to be the last Triple Crown winners for 25 years. The 75th running of the Kentucky Derby in 1949 saw 16-1 shot Ponder win the first Derby to be televised (locally and very limited). Also in 1949, Matt Winn, the one-time tailor come racing mogul credited with making the Derby what it is now, died. He witnessed all seventy-five Kentucky Derbies run during his lifetime, the first from his father's grocery cart parked in the infield.   The minimum bid reflects the fact that there are TWO Triple Crown winners in this lot.   The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three year-old thoroughbred horses, held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, on the first Saturday in May, capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival.   The Derby is frequently referred to as "The Run for the Roses," because a lush blanket of 554 red roses is awarded to the Kentucky Derby winner each year.      NOTE !!!
