Description
Vintage Kentucky Derby Tickets "DERBY DAY"1940's   Group of four tickets to the Kentucky Derby, including TWO Triple Crown Winners!! All four are from the 1940's. Please see my other Derby lots currently up for auction. I will try to describe the condition of each ticket as best as I can, but use the images to make your own judgement.   1941 Winner: Whirlaway - TRIPLE CROWN WINNERNM-MINT Condition - No creases/folds. No stains. Sharp edges.   1942 Winner: Shut Out EX Condition - Wrinkle/fold down right side of ticket... hard to see.  No stains.   1943 Winner: Count Fleet - TRIPLE CROWN WINNER EX+ Condition - 1/2" wrinkle/fold across bottom left corner. Sharp edges & corners   1944 Winner: Pensive VG-EX Condition - Minor wrinkles/folds (none of which through full thickness of ticket). Some staining (see pix).   Whirlaway won the Triple Crown in 1941. WWII limited the 1943 race to hometown Louisville fans only, and over 65,000 turned out to see Count Fleet, a heavy favorite, win on his way to the second Triple Crown of the 1940's.   The minimum bid reflects the fact that there are TWO Triple Crown winners in this lot.   The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three year-old thoroughbred horses, held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, on the first Saturday in May, capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival.   The Derby is frequently referred to as "The Run for the Roses," because a lush blanket of 554 red roses is awarded to the Kentucky Derby winner each year.      NOTE !!! Make sure you are comfortable with the shipping charges BEFORE you bid. I do not charge "ACTUAL" shipping. I charge a "FLAT RATE" depending on where you are in the world.
