Description
Here is a TERRIFIC RARE Newspaper Archive of several days of full issues of The Denver Evening News covering the September 23, 1927 Heavyweight Championship Fight between hometown Hero Jack Dempsey and Marine Champion Gene Tunney. This was THE FAMOUS LONG COUNT FIGHT in which Dempsey would have won by knockout, but he failed to go to a neutral corner and Tunney, though down for 14 seconds, beat the count and went on to win the decision. The coverage is spectacular with several artistic layouts and the FIRST PHOTOGRAPH of the knockdown which was released a few days after the fight as was the practice of the day to boost the gate. The final article is on the protest appeal filed by Jack and the rest is history. This version of the Fight of the Century is considered by many to be just that. The coverage is unbelievable first person featuring every angle imaginable before, during and after this iconic bout!
