JULY 4, 1942 EMPIRE CITY PROGRAM IN NEAR MINT CONDITION. NO WRITING IN OR ON THIS PROGRAM. IT'S UNUSED! Please ignore the forego1974 that you see on the pictures. Its not actually on the program and there just to protect the pictures. This program is flat, firm, well intact. No bends, creases or tears. No paper loss. No edgewear along the spine. There is a minor light soiling on the upper right of the cover. The inside of the back page has a small piece of clear tape at the bottom left but it is not covering any tear. Its just there.  WHIRLAWAY RACES IN THE FEATURE RACE....THE BUTLER STAKES against the great Filly Champion VAGRANCY. On the undercard in the race prior to The Butler you have COUNT FLEET in an Allowance race as a 2 YEAR OLD.  This was COUNT FLEET'S first Allowance race following his Maiden victory. He had not even run in a Stakes yet! COUNT FLEET ridden by the only jockey that ever rode him.....HALL OF FAMER..JOHNNY LONGDEN.... would win this race by 5 lengths and race 17 more times in his career...winning 14 of them including a 30 length win in the Walden Stakes and finishing off his Career in 1943 with a 25 length BELMONT STAKES VICTORY in capturing THE TRIPLE CROWN!  It would take 30 years for Count Fleets Belmont Stakes to be topped when SECRETARIAT won the BELMONT by 31 lengths in 1973. WHIRLAWAY...already a TRIPLE CROWN WINNER of 1941 has HALL OF FAME jockey GEORGE WOLFE riding him and WHIRLAWAY spotted a ton of weight to everyone in the field including the Champion 3-Year-Old Filly and Handicap Mare of 1942 VAGRANCY who got 32 pouns from WHIRLAWAY.  In light, Tola Rose won the race with WHIRLAWAY 2nd.
