William Shoemaker had just begun his incredible career with his first professional ride a few days earlier on March 19, 1949 at Golden Gate...Top jocks that season at Golden Gate were Shoemaker, Ralph Neves, Johnny Longden and Gordon Glisson...Dance team "Veloz and Yolanda had a horse ("Miss Veloz") running in the 3rd race, movie director Howard Hawks had "Dark Hawk running in the first and C.S.
