Historic document marked a sad occasion for Atlanta basketball fans, and the start of a glorious new era for those in the Big Easy, who were treated to the first four of five seasons of the Pistol's service by virtue of the agreement. Beyond compensation for moving costs, the contract stipulates payment of $375,000 annually for the years 1974-75 through 1976-77, with an option for 1977-78 of $400,000, which the Jazz was glad to employ. Twelve pages in length, the contract is initialed "PM" at the bottom of all but pages seven and twelve, which are instead boldly (10/10) signed "Peter Maravich." Signatures from Jazz personnel and various witness share space. Pistol Pete's classic American story of the kid with big dreams who made it big endeared him to a nation of basketball fans, and his tragic, early death at age forty served to ensure that the demand for mementos of his life would never be met by supply.
