The Athletes that finished within the first 8 places in any sport had their name engraved on the medal along with the sport and place of finish, The medals diameter is 60mm and it weighs about 88 gr. On the Obverse: Seated Nike holding laurel wreath over phoenix emerging from flames, Acropolis in background, which is the same as the Athens 1896 participation medal. On the Reverse: The Hellenic Olympic committee emblem and in Greek, the athletes name, "ANTONIOS FOTSIS" In honour of his team's  5th place finish in the basketball competition.   Note that this is not the actuall medal given to the athlete , is an original medal created for that purpose , discarded however afterwards due to a misprint on the athletes name.
