You are bidding on an extremely rare 1979 Dave Winfield game used San Diego Padres jersey. This home white vintage Wilson knit pullover jersey originates from the private collection of the long time San Diego Padres traveling secretary, John Mattei. The styling is unique, the wear is superb and the provenance is rock solid. This style of jersey was a one year only style and was only worn during the 1979 season. It comes with a superb Dave Winfield autograph on the back #1 of the jersey. The jersey is 100% original and comes with the original name plate even though it was once removed as this jersey was among a group of jerseys that was to have the names removed and be sent down for use in the Padres minor league system. Fortunately, this jersey along with a few chosen others were stopped before being shipped off and the original name tags were put back on and these jerseys were given to traveling secretary John Mattei, where they remained in his collection until his death in 2005. This jersey is extremely rare as many of these Padre jerseys did not survive after their use in the minor leagues. Game used jerseys from Winfield's playing days in San Diego are extremely rare. I was fortunate to obtain a few jerseys from Mattei's collection to which I aquired a 1979 Ozzie Smith game used Padres jersey (the only known Ozzie Smith game used Padres jersey to exist), a 1978 Mickey Lolich game used Padres jersey and a rare 1978 Dave Winfield game Padres jersey in addition to the jersey offered here. The Ozzie Smith and Mickey Lolich jerseys were sold previously but I do have the 1978 Dave Winfield jersey up on a separate Ebay auction.
