1990 Fred Stone Horse Racing Plate SIGNED by Jockey Ron Turcotte ~ The Final Tribute Secretariat 1970 - 1989 Ron Turcotte Up ~ This plate is HAND SIGNED IN GOLD by Hall-of-Fame Jockey Ron Turcotte. This is Plate #2303 from a limited edition of only 4,500 signed by Ron Turcotte. Collectible porcelain plate is 10 1/4 inches in diameter, and is banded in 24k gold etched border of running race horses. Back of plate reads: "It was as if God decided to make the perfect racehorse" said an awe struck Chick Lang when he first saw Secretariat run. And the horse fulfilled that promise all the way to The Triple Crown and beyond. Secretariat never actually defied nature. He was not her rival, but her gift. Nineteen years later he was felled by laminitis and destroyed on October 4, 1989 to spare him from further suffering. he was buried at Claiborne Farm opposite Swale and Round Table. Ed Bowen had said of the great chestnut, "He had moved us to tears before, and now in death he has again." Five years after winning The Triple Crown aboard Secretariat, jockey Ron Turcotte was seriously injured in a spill at Belmont Park on July 13, 1978. Since that time, he has been confined to a wheelchair at his home in New Brunswick, Canada. This plate is in mint condition without chips, cracks or scratches.
