INTRODUCTION      There are many reason why people buy horseracing systems. Most want to find the "HOLY GRAIL" with big money made with a little effort. Some do it because they know little about horseracing and hope to get a quick education by reading a 20 page manual. Others are just tired of losing money and want to see just a little profit after six hours at the track and hollering at horses that are still running. In my case, it was all of the above. Except it happened 25 years ago when I had a day job as a IBM programmer. I and a couple of my co-workers who like to bet, decided after a day of losing at the track that there had to be a better way. Maybe a computer was the answer. After all, if a computer could play chess, picking a horse race winner would be simple. So we started to work. Our first computer was a IBM mainframe that took up a room the size of a football field. We worked on this project (our retirement package) whenever we had the time and no one was looking. It was a lot of work to develop and a lot of work to use. There was no downloading and the Daily Racing Form was our only source. Everything had to be type in. In the late 80's we re-developed the system into a series of programs for the IBM personal Computer (PC). We called the system "Thoroughbred Pick Report" or "TPR" for short. We continued to add and take away until the mid 90's when the system was modified to except download from BRIS. This eliminated 99% of the errors and made it much easier to use. My two conspirators have since gone on to the big track in the sky but I continue to use TPR for all my betting. I will confess that I am not a heavy bettor and personally am not making a fortune from backing my selections. However I do make enough tp provide for a good second income. Most of my winnings come from the winners that TPR picks for the top three. If I stick to these top three picks and not try to "out guess" the system, I can end the week on the plus side. TPR HIGHLIGHTS TPR is a system that has no manual data entry. All of the information is retrieved from the downloaded files and based on the user's preference, the computer handicaps the race(s). Computer handicapping can be done one of two ways; Automatic or manual If the user wants the computer to make the selection automatically, the handicappers must choose between the best of three most recent races or the last race run. If the handicapper wants to make his/her own selection, the system will display the six(6) most recent past performances(with the horse's performance calculated) and the user chooses which race he wants to use in the handicapping process. The system will then compute the values of over 40 racing factors for each horse and handicap one to fourteen races in one pass. After the system completes the handicapping process, the user is presented with several options for displaying the information: Display---The top four horses in each factor can be displayed in a series of three monitor screens, The final page has the consensus. Displays and Prints each race and evaluated each horse by class, condition, speed, pace, and overall fitness for this race.  The top three picks are indicated along with their value.  It is this screen that has resulted in the winner being present 64% of the time. Print---All of the races can be printed in one run without any user interaction or printed one at a time. The printed reports and the display screens will show the horses categorized by racing factors. These factors are: Early Pace...Sustained Pace...Factor W...Factor X...Average 2nd call bl...Fulcrum horse value...All horse's computed second call time...All horses computed Final Time...Average DRF Speed...Average Bris speed...Average Las Vegas Speed Time...Morning odds... Betting Line...Average Purse value...Pace of race...Pace of Horse...Final Fraction computed time...Turn Time...Ability Time...Indexed class...Indexed speed...Indexed Deceleration...Impact Values...Total Pace early speed....Total pace Late speed... Total pace speed...Average total Pace...Bris Power #, System power number...Prime value...Book Speed...Ultra value...Omni rating...Blue sky rating for sprints...horse win %...Trainer win %...Jockey win % and the Grand total ranking of all factors. TPR provides a means of entering scratched horses and final  results for each race. With this method a data base can be built that will enable the handicapper to keep track of his/her   handicapping.  Thereby showing what factors are winning at a race track or class of race.  There is no need for any spread sheets or manual record keeping.  Since some professional handicappers and writers suggest that horses that are front runners win more than their fair share of races. It was decided to include a report that analyze every horse in a race and prints out the PP's of those races in which the horse was in the lead at both the first and second call. This may of or may not be of any value. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS For Windows 95/98/ME and XP Home. Not compatible with Windows NT/2000/2000 professional. THE ONLY REQUIREMENT IS THAT TPR RUN IN A DOS ENVIRONMENT. The user does not have to learn dos as the "setup" program installs TPR under a windows icon. Speed of the computer is not revenant since there isn't but four menus and most of the processing takes place without user interaction. A color monitor is not required as the only screen that uses color is the manual selection screen and the display screens. The printer is very important to TPR. Should your printer be newer(after 2000) and not be supported by dos, A freeware dos software utility can be purchased from "dosprn.com" for $14.95. This software will support most of today's ink jet and laser devices when used with dos. The other option is to contact the printer's manufacturer and obtain a dos driver.  Most manufacturers will furnish  this at no cost.  I prefer the utililty software. However all this is also available on the monitor screen, but just in not as much detail. And unless you have a laptop, you can't take it to the races.. CONCLUSION The documentation(44 pages ) provided with this system should be all a person needs to handicap a race. The main reason that I use TPR is to find the top contenders and the fact that horse racing is about numbers. With internet betting and simulcasting, number crunching from the DRF is impossible. TPR is not a black box. You will be able to see for yourself every factor's value and how it relates to the horse's final standing in the race. There will be no magic winning horse produced. That is up the handicapper and his judgement. Thats it, pure and simple. FOR 90 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE, HELP WILL BE AVAILABLE BY EMAIL. . I will also provide my phone number for anyone who purchases the system.(Remember it is a DOS System and works with codes instead of point and clicks as in windows) Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool.
