He trained under Tom Morris as a ballmaker as well as a clubmaker in 1866 he became the first professional at Royal North Devon also known ad Westwood Ho! He was the professional at North Devon from 1866 until 1886/87 when he returned to prestwick. He also helped to laydown new golf courses notably Kingsdown in Wiltshire in 1880. The club has a shorter head than earlier long nose clubs. So it would definitely be considered a transitional or early bulger in style. Notoriously hard to date this type of club but I would think somewhere between 1880-1895.
