Thoroughbred Memorabilia Authentic Horse Racing Memorabilia For your bidding consideration, I am pleased to offer the actual raceworn and exercise saddle cloth set worn by Strodes Creek in the 1994 Belmont Stakes and the final leg of America’s Triple Crown. Ridden by Jerry Bailey, Strodes Creek was the post time favorite and placed 3rd to Tabasco Cat and Go For Gin. I’ve decided to offer both cloths as a package rather than offering them individually. Owning a set, rather than just the raceworn alone, increases the value of both cloths due to the extreme rarity of owning both. Acquiring a Triple crown cloth from a horse who placed in the race is a rarity in itself, owning two is off the charts. Likely the first Belmont saddle cloth set from a horse who finished 3rd to ever appear on eBay, this is also likely the last as well since Belmont exercise cloths have been absent the last few years. Strodes Creek, a huge son of Halo, was the last “big horse” trained by the legendary Charles Whittingham. He ran under the same colors and shared the same sire as Sunday Silence. A stakes winner of the J.O Tobin Stakes, Strodes Creek finished 3rd in the Santa Anita Derby prior to the best performance of his career on the first Saturday of may. Strodes Creek finished 2nd in the 1994 Kentucky Derby to Go for Gin and in process defeating a talented field that included Holy Bull. Off this performance, Strodes Creek was sent off as the even money favorite in the Belmont Stakes. Both saddle cloths are in perfect condition. The raceworn saddle cloth shows lots of wear and features a unique design which pre-dates color coded cloths of today. Accompanying the saddle cloths is an original 5x7 post parade photo of Strodes Creek and an 8x10 photo of Tabasco Cat crossing the wire. Belmont Stakes program pages and pages from the Blood-Horse are also included - all neatly stored in individual plastic sleeves.
