Absolutely NO RESERVE !!!DESCRIPTION One of the Rarest of all boxing pinbacks is this one issued in 1897 from Cameo Pepsin Gum with its central theme based on the World Heavyweight Championship fight between champion James Corbett and challenger Bob Fitzsimmons on March 17, 1897 at Carson City, Nevada. Corbett was dominant for most of the fight as he battered Fitzsimmons through most of the early rounds and dropped him for a nine count in round 6. Fitzsimmons was badly cut and bleeding everywhere which prompt Mrs. Fitzsimmons to call out, "Hit him in the slats, Bob!" ("slats" meant the abdominal area). Fitzsimmons then winded Corbett with a hard punch and with one powerful blow struck the Champ just below the heart. Corbett could not continue within the count and Fitzsimmons became the new champion. In this 1-1/4” pin, the loser Corbett is portrayed as the “crybaby”. The pin is a BEAUTY, in solid NrMT condition with no virtual surface flaws. Original paper backing is on the verso of this pin produced for Cameo Pepsin Gum by the Whitehead & Hoag Co. of Newark, NJ. It is featured in pinback expert Paul Muchinsky’s new 175-page book titled “Boxing Pinback Buttons” and is listed at over $2,000.00 (pin # 22 in the guide).
